Shirley Valentine is a comedy about finding one's own identity – intended not only for middle-aged women, but for everyone who enjoys good entertainment. Shirley Valentine is the name of the girl that the current forty-year-old mother and wife of a respectable citizen from Liverpool is no longer.

Yet the dreams and desires of the girl she once was remain within her. She succumbs to her friend's suggestion and does something unexpected – she goes on holiday to Greece. And there a new life begins, a new adventure, and everything she thought was already lost.
