Molière, born Jean-Baptiste Poquelin (1622–1673), was a French playwright and actor widely regarded as one of the greatest masters of comedy in theatre history. His plays, including The Miser, Tartuffe, and The Misanthrope, sharply satirise human vices and hypocrisy. He wrote for the court of Louis XIV, and his works remain staples of theatre repertoires worldwide.
