21 Grams

A tragic accident connects the lives of three people from different worlds, drawing them into a shared existence. University mathematics professor Paul (Sean Penn) confronts his own mortality, devoted wife and mother of two Cristine (Naomi Watts) faces events that may shape her present and future, and former convict Jack (Benicio Del Toro) finds himself in situations that test his newly discovered faith.

Following the international success of Amores perros, Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu accepted offers from Hollywood and seized the chance to realize his own project with a stellar cast. His second feature unfolds at a rapid pace, assembled from fragments of several lives - we discover their pieces gradually, often out of sequence, in flashbacks and repetitions, until they converge into a single whole at the end.

On this story of hope and humanity, resilience and survival, Iñárritu collaborated again with screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga. Together they weave images of human passion, cowardice, desire for revenge, love, cruelty and tenderness.
