A concert organized by the Dvořák Festival. Organist Pavel Kohout will perform.

The programme features two works of Czech classical music:
– A. Dvořák: Symphony No. 9 in E minor, op. 95 "From the New World" (Adagio – Allegro molto / Largo / Molto vivace / Allegro con fuoco)
– B. Smetana: Vltava from the symphonic poem My Homeland

About the venue: Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary

A late Gothic deanery church built between 1517 and 1550 to designs by Jakob Heilmann of Schweinfurt, featuring a three-nave hall with 16 chapels. It gained worldwide fame in 1975 when, to make way for coal mining, it was moved 841 metres along rails – a feat recorded in the Guinness Book of Records. Open to visitors since 1988, the interior houses an exhibition of Gothic and Renaissance art from north-west Bohemia and a 17-metre-high Baroque altar.

Prague-born Pavel Kohout ranks among the leading concert organists of his generation - a title secured by his win at the Tokyo Musashino competition in 2000, since when he has played in cathedrals and concert halls across five continents. His recitals blend baroque repertoire with his own organ transcriptions of Czech symphonic works, including Smetana's Vltava.

Pavel Kohout performed on June 8, 2025 in the church in Štípě near Zlín as part of the cycle The Magic of Organs; the program included an organ version of Smetana's Vltava and compositions by Paganini.

At the Dvořák Festival in Hejnice (July 5, 2025) Kohout performed an organ version of Dvořák's New World Symphony on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the consecration of the Hejnice church.

In June 2024 Kohout performed at the Art Walks festival in Plzen (Korand Choir) together with violist Jitka Hosprova as part of the celebration of the Year of Czech Music and the 200th anniversary of the birth of Bedrich Smetana.
