Vinohrady in the First Republic — Vinohrady, Prague

Did you know that Royal Vinohrady was predominantly Czech from its inception? One of the last German enclaves here disappeared shortly after the founding of the First Republic - and in its place rose a series of buildings that still symbolize the confidence of the Czechoslovak Republic.

An architectural walk begins at the former Seidl Field and focuses on striking Vinohrady buildings from the interwar period. It traces the development of the new state's architecture from the search for a distinctive national style to purely international forms of modern architecture. The selected buildings also document the social, economic, and cultural transformations brought about by the fall of the monarchy.

Meeting point: at the tram stop "Vinohradská tržnice" on the corner of Vinohradská Avenue and Sázavská Street.
