DVA and 20 Years of Nonexistence

DVA celebrates 20 years of existence - and Dock Ostrava is the place to be. Since 2006, they have mixed folk, pop, electronics and techno into an unclassifiable folklore of nonexistent nations. Their nonexist pop with live samples has captivated audiences from Australia through Ukraine to the USA - and the audience understands them, even though they sing in the ciphers of their own language, which they translate into Czech and English.

Internationally, DVA became known also through soundtracks for computer games for Amanita Design studio, where they have collaborated with animator Jára Plachý for 15 years (Botanicula, Chuchel, Happy Game). Several milestones stand out from their discography: the album HU (2010 / Label Home Table) won the Anděl award in the alternative music category, the Botanicula soundtrack (2012 / Minority Rec) won the Excellence in Audio Award at IGF in San Francisco, and the album Nipomo (2014 / Northern Spy) released in the USA became album of the year in the Vinyla awards. In their most active years 2010-2015, they played at festivals SXSW, Fusion, Open'er, OFF, Sziget, SKIF and Eurosonic, and also performed during the protests on the Maidan in Kyiv.

After a concert break, the band returned in 2024 with the album Piri Piri (2024 / Bumbum Satori). DVA are two: Jan Kratochvíl (beats, live looping, guitar, vocals, synth, percussion) and Bára Ungerová (vocals, saxophone, clarinet, flute, percussion, lyrics and translations).
