Tony Gatlif's latest film follows a sixty-year-old man named Ange who sets out to find an old friend, Mark, to come to terms with his past. Along the way, he meets Solea, the daughter of Georgina, a woman he once loved - and his journey through France gradually becomes a search for lost relationships and the capacity to forgive.
Music here is far more than accompaniment: the characters communicate through it, improvise, and meet across it. Gatlif thus builds on themes that have run through his filmography for decades - journey, freedom, Romani culture.
The film was made after the covid pandemic as a conscious counterbalance to isolation and fear. The director describes it as a film about life, emotion, love, and defiance.
