Mathieu Amalric (born 25 October 1965 in Neuilly-sur-Seine) is a French actor and filmmaker whose work spans intimate arthouse cinema and major international productions. He won the César Award for Best Actor for his lead role in The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (2007) and reached global audiences as the villain in Quantum of Solace (2008). As a director he took the Best Director prize at Cannes 2010 for On Tour, and he remains a regular collaborator of Wes Anderson, most recently in The Phoenician Scheme (2025).
