About

Vilém z Rožmberka (1535-1592) was the most powerful member of the Rosenberg dynasty and a dominant figure in pre-White Mountain Bohemia. As Supreme Burgrave of the Bohemian Kingdom from 1570, he held the highest secular office in the land; his court at Český Krumlov attracted musicians, painters, and figures such as the alchemists Edward Kelley and John Dee. He received the Order of the Golden Fleece in 1585. Today he is the central historical figure of the Five-Petalled Rose Festival in Český Krumlov, one of Europe's largest historical celebrations.
