About

The Vegetable Orchestra (Das erste Wiener Gemüseorchester) is a Viennese ensemble founded in February 1998 that performs exclusively on instruments built from fresh vegetables - carrots, cucumbers, pumpkins, leeks and more. Its ten musicians, a cook and a sound technician come from backgrounds spanning architecture, visual art and electronic music. Instruments are crafted just before each show, then turned into soup for the audience afterwards. The group holds a Guinness World Record for the most concerts by a vegetable orchestra and has given over 340 performances worldwide in its 27-year history.
