The Atavists are a four-piece surf/stoner rock band from Hradec Králové, Czech Republic, active since late 2014. Their sound revolves around frontman Adam Krofian's baritone voice and menacing guitar work, anchored by electric organ and a hard-hitting rhythm section. The band has released three albums and an EP, supported Muse, Biffy Clyro and Skunk Anansie, and won two Anděl Awards in 2019 for Best New Act and Best Rock Album.
The Atavists released in March 2026 the EP Hit So Hard - their first EP after three studio albums, recorded in Pardubice, Brussels and on Sumava in collaboration with Belgian producer Gregoire Chardon.
For each of the five tracks of the EP, the band shot a separate music video; the title single Hit So Hard is accompanied by a video inspired by the aesthetics of black metal forest videos.
In parallel with the EP, The Atavists are working on their fourth full-length album in a new lineup with drummer Marty Spruce; the foundations were created in 2025 in the Sono studio and the release is planned for autumn 2026.
The band returned after a two-year hiatus with the single Too Old for DIY, which was accompanied by a music video made from Lego bricks - shot in secret even from frontman Adam Krofian.
The third album Prettier Than You (2022) was nominated for the Anděl award in the Rock category.
