
GEISSLERS HOFCOMOEDIANTEN: Theatre of Light
An opera about the first master of light in Baroque theatre, performed in the courtyard of the historic Kuks Hospital. Music by Jan Jirásek, directed by Petr Hašek.
Petr Hašek (born 1979, Dvůr Králové nad Labem) is a Czech theatre director and co-founder of the Prague ensemble Geisslers Hofcomoedianten, which he has led as artistic director since its founding in 2002. He studied directing and dramaturgy at the Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre at DAMU under Prof. Josef Krofta. With the ensemble he developed a distinctive 'new baroque' style that blends spoken theatre, music, puppetry and dance drawn from baroque source material; the company is based at Vila Štvanice in Prague and performs each summer at the Theatrum Kuks festival. Since 2014 he has also served as artistic director of the Small Stage of the South Bohemian Theatre in České Budějovice.
Geisslers Hofcomoedianten present a new opera Theatre of Light (premiere 14. 6. 2026) with music by Jan Jirásk in the direction of Petr Hašek.
In October 2025, the premiere of the production Anger took place, the first part of a new cycle inspired by the Baroque sculptures of Virtues and Vices by Matyas Bernard Braun in Kuks.
At the Theatrum Kuks 2025 festival, the premiere of the production Project Casanova: How a Female Smells took place in the direction of Petr Hašek; the ensemble's evenings were sold out.
In May 2025, the premiere of the production Rusty Anna or What's the Bone For! - a purely female grotesque noir performed in the Baroque chapel of the Prague Invalidovna took place.
The production 27 directed by Petr Hašek received the Mark Ravenhill Prize for the best Czech theatrical production of a new text for 2022.
