Paata Shamugia is a Georgian poet and essayist, one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Georgian literature. His 2006 collection Anti-Tqaosani - a provocative dialogue with the national epic The Knight in the Panther's Skin - sparked wide public debate. His poetry blends irony, satire and linguistic playfulness with sharp criticism of both national tradition and current politics. He has won the prestigious Georgian literary prize Saba twice.
