Omar Sosa (born April 10, 1965, in Camagüey, Cuba) is a pianist, composer, and bandleader whose music grows from Afro-Cuban roots and weaves in jazz, world music, and electronics. He trained in percussion and piano at Havana's Escuela Nacional de Música and Instituto Superior de Arte; after leaving Cuba he lived in Ecuador and San Francisco before settling in Mallorca, Spain. Across more than thirty albums he has earned seven Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations, collaborating with artists as varied as Senegalese kora master Seckou Keita and Italian trumpeter Paolo Fresu.
Omar Sosa completed a four-night residency as Resident Artistic Director at SFJAZZ in San Francisco (March 5-8, 2026) with various ensembles including Aguas Trio and Suba Trio.
Sosa released the solo album Sendas - a recording of piano improvisations recorded live at the Italian Fazioli Concert Hall in 2020.
The album Omar Sosa's 88 Well-Tuned Drums was released as a soundtrack to a documentary film about Sosa directed by Sorena Sorensen.
Quarteto Americanos completed a tour of the USA on the occasion of the release of the documentary Omar Sosa's 88 Well-Tuned Drums.
Sosa has scheduled performances in Hamburg and Paris as part of an ongoing European tour.
