About

Omar Sosa (born April 10, 1965, in Camagüey, Cuba) is a pianist, composer, and bandleader whose music grows from Afro-Cuban roots and weaves in jazz, world music, and electronics. He trained in percussion and piano at Havana's Escuela Nacional de Música and Instituto Superior de Arte; after leaving Cuba he lived in Ecuador and San Francisco before settling in Mallorca, Spain. Across more than thirty albums he has earned seven Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations, collaborating with artists as varied as Senegalese kora master Seckou Keita and Italian trumpeter Paolo Fresu.
