About

Motovidlo is a Czech all-female folk dance and song ensemble from Kyjov, specialising in the traditions of the Kyjovské Dolňácko ethnographic region of southern Moravia. The group performs without male partners - the name references a spindle, a tool historically associated with women's work. Their dedicated accompanying band, the cimbalom ensemble Širúch, was founded in 2017 under bandleader Vojtěch Půček. The group has performed at folk festivals both in the Czech Republic and abroad, including a tour to India in 2019.

  • 2019-04

    The Motovidlo ensemble traveled with Moravian folklore to a festival in India, borrowed part of the travel costs, and is repaying them after returning.

  • 2017

    The cimbalom music ensemble Širúch, led by primas Vojtěch Půčka, was created as an accompanying band for the Motovidlo ensemble.
