Cuniburo Cultural

About

Cuniburo Cultural is an Ecuadorian folk ensemble from Cayambe and Quito, combining the music group Ñanpi (founded 1991) and the dance company Allpamanta (founded 2009). The name comes from Kaiambi indigenous mythology - a sprite who cooled the earth with ice from Mount Cayambe and became guardian of the middle of the world. Operating as a non-profit under Fundación Cultural Ñanpi, the ensemble has represented Ecuador at CIOFF® festivals in more than ten countries, including Italy, France, Greece, China and Spain.

  • 2025-08

    Fundación Cultural Ñanpi performed in the Colombian city of Dosquebradas as part of an international cultural exchange.

  • 2023

    The ensemble completed a tour of Greece as part of the 2023 European tour and performed the Intiwatana concert at Teatro Nacional Sucre in Quito with Orquesta de Instrumentos Andinos.

  • 2022

    The National Assembly of Ecuador awarded the Ñanpi ensemble recognition for thirty years of cultural work.

  • 2022

    For the 31st anniversary, the ensemble organized a series of concerts throughout Ecuador, including a performance at Teatro Mexico in Quito.

  • 2011

    On the CIOFF® tour in Italy, the ensemble received the Speciale Performance award.
