Sir András Schiff (born 21 December 1953 in Budapest) is a Hungarian-British pianist and conductor, one of the most respected keyboard interpreters of our time. He studied at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest under Pál Kadosa, György Kurtág and Ferenc Rados, and later in London with George Malcolm. Since 1997 he has recorded exclusively for ECM New Series, building a catalogue that spans complete cycles of Beethoven sonatas, Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier and much else. He was appointed Knight Bachelor in 2014 for services to music.

  • 2025-03

    In March 2025, Schiff cancelled all his performances in the USA for the 2025-2026 season - including a recital tour in October 2025 and collaborations with the Philadelphia Orchestra and New York Philharmonic in May 2026 - in response to political changes in the United States.

  • 2023-01

    In January 2023, he released on ECM New Series a double album J.S. Bach: Clavichord - his first recording on the clavichord, on which he plays a replica of an instrument from 1743.

  • 2018

    Schiff accepted the role of Associate Artist with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE), which deepened his interest in historical keyboard instruments.
