Jizerské Mountains Exhibition
Exhibition of photographs and paintings by Alex Beran celebrating the Jizerské Mountains, displayed in the historic monastery at this major Bohemian pilgrimage site.
Alex Beran (born 1923 in Liberec) is a Czech painter and graphic artist who has lived and worked in Liberec since 1948. He became known above all for his distinctive, deeply personal depictions of the Jizerské hory landscape. Rather than painting the mountains wholesale, he picks out fragments - typically tree trunks - and develops them further through his own imagination. His early work also includes the photographic cycle Zlínské odpoledne (1943), a surrealist record of the vanishing pre-Baťa Zlín.
