The Zoological and Botanical Garden of the City of Pilsen was founded in 1926 and has occupied its 21-hectare site in the Lochotín district since 1963. It is the second oldest zoo in the Czech Republic and the only one in the country combined with a botanical garden. The collection covers more than 1,100 animal taxa; the grounds are arranged by continent and include exhibits such as the Kingdom of Poison, the Czech River, and the Japanese garden Šówa-en. The site also hosts the first Czech DinoParkt, and a separate Akva Tera exposition operates in the city centre.
