Falconry Demonstrations at Plzeň Zoo
Zoologická a botanická zahrada města Plzně, Plzeň
Falconry demonstrations take place in the Lochotín Amphitheatre as part of the Plzeň Zoo and Botanical Garden's offerings since 2006. The season runs from April to October, with shows held six days a week – every day except Mondays and days when concerts or other events are held in the amphitheatre. The morning demonstration begins at 11:00, the afternoon one at 14:00; morning and afternoon shows feature different bird lineups. The programme lasts approximately 35–45 minutes, and visitors are asked to remain for the entire duration if possible. The amphitheatre opens 15 minutes before the show starts, and entry is only possible from the zoo grounds via the lower gate near the sports field; visitors are not admitted after the demonstration begins. Shows do not take place in bad weather (rain, strong wind). When temperatures exceed 30 °C, instead of flight demonstrations, a meeting with the falconer takes place, featuring a talk about the history of falconry and a display of equipment without birds of prey present. Visitors can expect to see various species of birds of prey and owls – for example, bald eagles, sea eagles, Harris's hawks, eagle owls, ravens, and many others. After the show, visitors can take photographs with a bird of prey or owl and purchase small souvenirs. Falconry demonstrations are included in the zoo admission price and cannot be visited separately. Zoo admission: adults 240 CZK, children/students/seniors 170 CZK, families (2+2) 780 CZK.
