Konojedy Castle, Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary

Úštěk

About the venue

The late Baroque church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands on a rocky outcrop in the village of Konojedy, about 6 km from Úštěk. It was built between 1748 and 1752 as part of a Servite convent founded by Franz Karl Swéerts-Sporck and his wife Anna Katharina in gratitude for the recovery of their only son. The church and the adjacent château - the former monastery, dissolved by Emperor Joseph II in 1786 - form one inseparable historical complex. Today the church hosts guided tours, concerts and wedding ceremonies; in 2017 it received the Patrimonium pro futuro award from the National Heritage Institute.
