Imprints of Time – Exhibition of Minerals, Fossils and Meteorites at Bučovice Castle
An exhibition of minerals, fossils and meteorites at Bučovice Castle that reveals the history of life on Earth through geological specimens.
Bučovice Castle is a rare example of Italian late Renaissance architecture north of the Alps - unlike most Czech castles, it was not converted from an older structure but built from scratch as a palazzo in fortezza. Jan Šembera Černohorský of Boskovice commissioned it between 1575 and 1585 to a design by Jacopo de Strada, art adviser to three Habsburg emperors. The arcaded courtyard has 90 columns bearing 540 reliefs, while the interiors feature Mannerist painted ceilings and the celebrated Hare Room, decorated with scenes of a world turned upside down. The castle has been a national cultural monument since 2001.
