Bělá pod Bezdězem

About the venue

Bělá pod Bezdězem Castle stands on a rocky spur at the eastern edge of town, on the site of a medieval fortified manor dating from the early 14th century. Rebuilt as a Renaissance château in the 16th century, it took on its current early-Baroque form after 1689 to designs by architect Jean-Baptiste Mathey. The Waldstein family owned it from 1678 until 1945. Today it houses a branch of the Mladá Boleslav Museum and town castle exhibitions, including the Waldstein Hall, St. Joseph's Chapel and Gothic cellars.
