Royal Theatre occupies the Maceška Palace on Vinohradská street, where Emanuel Maceška opened Prague's largest and most modern cinema in 1929. After decades of communist-era confiscation and eventual restitution to the family, Frenchman Jean-Christophe Gramont took over the space, carefully renovated it, and opened it in July 2014 as a multipurpose cultural venue. Original stained-glass windows, cut-glass lights and period details were preserved, giving the hall a distinct First Republic feel. Today the programme ranges from theatre and film screenings to concerts, cabaret and Prague Burlesque shows.
