St. Vitus Cathedral is the centrepiece of Prague Castle and the most important Gothic building in the country. Construction began under Charles IV in the 14th century and stretched over five hundred years. The cathedral houses the Bohemian crown jewels, royal tombs, and stained-glass windows - among them panels designed by Alfons Mucha.
