Brno and Its Churches 2026
A summer programme exploring the history and contemporary life of Brno's churches with guided tours. Free entry.
The Evangelical Church of Jan Amos Comenius, popularly known as the Red Church, stands on Komenského náměstí along the axis of Husova Street. It was built between 1863 and 1867 to a design by Viennese architect Heinrich von Ferstel in the North German Gothic style, using unplastered red brick - the source of its nickname. The three-nave building with a 51-metre tower was the first large non-Catholic church in Brno after its completion. Today it belongs to the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren and regularly hosts sacred music concerts.
