Charles Square

Prague

About the venue

Karlovo náměstí (Charles Square) was laid out in 1348 by Emperor Charles IV as part of Prague's New Town. At over 80,000 m² it is the largest square in the Czech Republic and one of the largest in Europe. Its centre is occupied by a park landscaped in the 1880s by garden architect František Thomayer, dotted with statues of notable Czech figures. The surrounding buildings include the New Town Hall - where the first Prague defenestration took place in 1419 - the Jesuit church of St Ignatius, and the so-called Faust House.
