J.K. Tyla Theatre

Třeboň

About the venue

The empire-style Divadlo J. K. Tyla on Masarykovo náměstí is one of the oldest civic theatres in Bohemia, built in 1833 inside a former brewery malt house. Its interior dates from 1872 and houses one of the oldest surviving painted stage curtains in the country, the work of František Skála from Písek. The theatre is named after J. K. Tyl, who performed here in 1852 and 1856; Ema Destinová also appeared on its stage. Today the city cultural centre runs it, staging theatre productions, concerts and guided tours.
