Uncompromising Brutalism: Wenceslas Square and National Avenue

A guided walking tour tracing the bold architectural visions of the second half of the 20th century in central Prague. The route showcases icons of Czech brutalism and late modernism - the New Building of the National Museum (originally the Federal Assembly building), the Družba, ČKD and Omnipol administrative complexes, and the Máj Department Store.

Guide Hana Valentová will explore the stories of architects who experimented with concrete, glass and new technologies, and show how these buildings continue to shape the face of Prague's centre today. Using contemporary architecture as examples, the tour compares how ideas about the modern city have evolved.
