Behind Prague's Mills

A guided walk traces the historic belt of mills, weirs, and water structures along the Vltava River - from the Dancing House to the Rudolfinum. The route covers approximately 2 km and takes around 1.5 hours.

Stops lead through the Šítkovské Mills, Žofín, the Legions Bridge, Střelecký Island, and the surroundings of Charles Bridge. The commentary focuses on how individual mills functioned - from the burgher Menhart Mills in the Old Town through the Augustinian mills near Střelecký Island to the industrial complex of the Šítkovské Mills and the mills of the Knights of St. John - as well as the vanished Vojtěšská Quarter, historic bridges that no longer survive, and the spa culture along the river.

The final section near the Na Rejdišti area (also called Sanytrovna) explores the urban transformation in which the original industrial infrastructure gave way to a regulated embankment and cultural institutions. This development will be illustrated with historical maps, vedute, and photographs.
