A British film based on the true story of John Davidson. It follows his coming of age - initially carefree, then marked by alienation and rejection from the world around him, where John struggles to find his place.

A turning point comes with his meeting with Dottie, the energetic mother of a former classmate, who opens the door to support and understanding.
