XIII. Century is a Czech band that characterizes its music as gothic rock. Frontman Petr Štěpán distances the group from genres such as "metal-gothic" or "doom-gothic" music.
The band was formed in 1990 from the punk group HNF (Heroes of the New Front). Two years later, they released their debut album Amulet. To date, they have recorded 10 studio albums, 2 live recordings (Nocturno, Live in Berlin), and three compilations (Karneval, 2CD Ritual, 3CD Horizont události). The compilation Horizont události includes band compositions and new songs Faust and Gods on Machines, as well as Petr Štěpán's theatrical music for plays and his electronic project Hindenburg.
On the occasion of the band's 25th anniversary, the studio album Intacto was released on February 5, 2016, which Petr Štěpán described as the last studio album of XIII. Century. On October 21, 2016, the ten-album box Pandora was released; exclusively for it, the band recorded two bonus tracks in June of that year – New Age of Darkness and Europe. XIII. Century is also popular in Poland.
