Mr. Jíša has successfully sold his first screenplay to Barrandov Studios. But as preparations begin, he discovers with horror that the filmmakers have completely ignored his vision - instead of a probe into the life of a contemporary village, they are preparing a grand musical show, which they are convinced will be a box-office hit.

The very first shots speak for themselves: an elegant gentleman arrives in the village of Lipovec, where local officials and ordinary citizens greet him with singing and dancing, because this expert is supposed to help them increase their crop yields using progressive methods. Filming continues in the same spirit, and the newly-minted screenwriter can hardly believe his eyes.
