Josef Abrhám (14 December 1939 - 16 May 2022) was one of the most celebrated Czech actors of the second half of the 20th century. He became a household name through comedies such as Marečku, podejte mi pero! and Vrchní, prchni!, and as Dr. Blažej in the television series Nemocnice na kraji města - a role that also won him fans in Germany. He received the Czech Lion Award for his performance in Šakalí léta (1993) and the Thalia Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2020. He was married to actress Libuše Šafránková, with whom he formed the most iconic acting couple in Czech cultural life.
