Brünnwerk is a Brno-based project combining song-based avant-garde with jazz improvisation. The vocal performance of Petr Rybíz Toman (Ars poetica nuova) blends singing, rap, stylized recitation, whisper, and other shades of vocal expression. His texts are playful and absurd, yet carry an unplanned inner gravity.
The musical ensemble is led compositionally and conducted by conductor Pavel Zlámal. The lineup includes recent Anděl Prize winner Kristián Kuruc, composition competition winner Martin Srpka-Konvička, and JAMU composition professor Jaroslav Šťastný. The resulting sound balances on the edge of jazz and pop elegance, with excursions beyond established forms and performative surprises — genre classification is difficult to pin down. (A distant parallel might be found in New York's Don Byron with lyricist Sadiq, or the domestic Illustratosféra sliced by Psí vojáci.)
In 2018, Brünnwerk released their debut CD on the Ears & Wind records label. Their second album, titled "Něco teď a všecko příště", was released on August 8, 2025. Pavel Zlámal and Brünnwerk are also the composers of the music for the Husa na provázku theatre production "Pravidla bincárny" (premiere May 2019).
