Ilse + Nishma
A performance held in deep remembrance on the occasion of Ilse Weberova's death anniversary. Following the show, the band Nishma will perform.
"The author of the poem 'Letter to My Son' is my mother Ilse Weberova, murdered at Auschwitz. I am Hanus, the son spoken of in this poem."
At eight years old, Hanus Weber was sent as part of Winton's rescue operation to Sweden, where he lived with Lilian - his mother's friend. Far from home and family, he did not know what was truly happening to his mother, father, and brother Tomik. His only connection to his mother was through letters.
This performance, composed of fragments from Ilse Weberova's letters and poems, traces the inner world of a person who had to leave something precious behind. It slowly illuminates hazy memories hidden in rediscovered correspondence and poses questions about how to reconcile with a painful past - and how to understand a mother between the lines.
