Monarchiot

A solo street performance at the intersection of theatre and happening.

King Demokar I is dead. The throne cannot remain empty - and so a new ruler is sought. Cloaked in stars and crowned by the silence of mountains. With eyes that see into the hearts of the people. A voice like thunder and words of lightning justice. A heart not of steel, but of bread and salt. Wisdom carved into a face weathered by wind and time, in hands marked by both sword and plough. Not a god, not a saviour, but a man who knows that a crown is a cross. Will a brave soul be found among us to take this responsibility into their own hands?

The MONARCHIOT project was created to connect regional communities across the Czech Republic and seek partners beyond Prague. Cultural organisations from the regional network New Network participated in it as part of a cycling residency - the so-called northern and southern trails.

The residential cycling tour took place in 2025-2026 and covered several hundred kilometres. It was not merely a logistical means - it became an independent artistic layer of the project, enabling a slowing of the creative process, sensitive perception of the surroundings, and the integration of movement into the performative concept of the MONARCHIOT production.
