Premysl Pitter Theatre Festival
took place · 3 Jun 2026
Žižkov Theatre of Járy Cimrmana, Prague
Description was written before the event
A theatre festival dedicated to the legacy of Premysl Pitter (1895–1976), a Czech humanist, educator, pacifist, and social worker renowned for his work with children in Prague's Žižkov district and his post-war "Castle Action" programme, through which he cared for children from concentration camps and German internment camps regardless of their origin. The festival takes place at Žižkovské Divadlo Járy Cimrmana, which has a direct local connection to Pitter's legacy — Žižkov was the centre of his educational and social activities. Theatre ensembles, including student and school groups, perform productions inspired by Pitter's life and work.
