Vyšehrad - A Fortress on the Rock

"I see a great city whose glory will touch the stars," Princess Libuše is said to have prophesied from the Vyšehrad rock, foretelling Prague's splendor. According to legend, she later threw her discarded lovers from her bath into the river, and centuries later, Horymír supposedly jumped from nearby into the Vltava on his horse Šemík, paradoxically saving his life.

Few places in Prague boast so many events that probably never happened. Yet on few places in the world rest so many notable figures who, though dead, still speak. This guided walk takes visitors through the Vyšehrad complex and its surroundings - featuring several legends, the Táborská and Leopoldova gates, the Rotunda of St. Martin, the Basilica of St. Peter and Paul, the Devil's Column, a statue from Wenceslas Square, and finally the cemetery with famous residents: M. Horáková, K. Čapek, M. Aleš, B. Němcová, J. Neruda, B. Smetana, and others.
