Proud Budžes

The story follows Helenka Součková, an eight-year-old second-grade pupil, as she guides audiences through the tragicomic experiences of Husák's normalization era as it unfolded in the early 1970s for both children and adults. Against the backdrop of a school and theatre in an unnamed provincial town, a series of comic mishaps, awkward moments, and minor and major misfortunes unfolds - Helenka not only experiences them but also evaluates and comments on them with the directness characteristic of her age.

Barbora Hrzánová won the Thalia Prize 2003 for this production for her exceptional female stage performance.
