Slavonic Emauzy

A guided tour of the Emauzy Monastery in Prague with guide Lenka Kliková.

Charles IV founded a monastery of Benedictine monks of Slavonic liturgy - hence the name "Na Slovanech" (On the Slavs) - in honor of his Premyslid ancestors. He considered it of exceptional importance within the Holy Roman Empire and took particular care with its decoration. This is still evident from the wall paintings that survived the hardships of centuries and the explosion of an Allied bomb at the end of World War II.

The tour will lead through the cloister, the imperial chapel, the Baroque refectory, and the Church of the Virgin Mary, St. Jerome, and the Slavonic Patrons. The roof of the building will also be exceptionally open to visitors. Participants will learn what life was like for a medieval monk - how often he ate, how many hours he slept, and what his daily duties were.

Meeting point is at the monastery cashier. The tour lasts approximately 2 hours and ends in an interior that participants can explore at their own pace. Guide: Lenka Kliková.
