Church of St. John

The Church of St. John, also known as the Church of St. John the Baptist, was originally dedicated to both saints - St. John the Evangelist and St. John the Baptist. It was built in the 14th century close to the city walls, shortly before the construction of Opava Castle. Today, the oldest fragments of the medieval city fortification tower are preserved near the church. In the 18th century, the church received its Baroque appearance, which was only slightly modified at the end of the 19th century and after war damage in 1945. Today it is a cultural monument owned by the Church of St. John association, which organizes cultural events and services here and is annually part of the Slunovrat festival. The tour will also include a visit to the roof structure and tower.
