Milivoj Husák – Light in Shadow

Diecézní muzeum, Brno

The Diocesan Museum in Brno presents the exhibition Milivoj Husák – Light in Shadow / painting in architecture: studies, models, documentation, dedicated to the work of Milivoj Husák (*1950, Turnov). The exhibition is installed in the crypt of the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul on Petrov and showcases Husák's vision of modern sacred spaces through studies, models, and documentation. Milivoj Husák is a Czech painter and graphic artist with Yugoslav roots who specializes in the realization of sacred interiors, altarpieces, and stations of the cross. His artistic practice has evolved from Baroque-inspired figurative painting through hieratic painting inspired by Byzantine iconography to abstract structural painting. The leitmotif of his work is the search for light in matter and the eternal in the transient. Among his Brno realizations are the Chapel of the Holy Spirit and the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at the Brno Bishopric, the chapel of the Bishop's Gymnasium in Brno, and the hospital chapel at Masaryk Oncology Institute.
