Rostislav Čuřík (Photography)
The exhibition presents the photographic work of Brno-based artist Rostislav Čuřík, whose creative career spans from the early 1980s. As a student, he created images inspired by romanticism, ecological themes, and mannerism, drawing from surrealism and intensely exploring radical body performance influenced by Transavantgarde and Tadeusz Kantor's theatre of death.
Čuřík also documented the life of alternative culture - capturing the beginnings of postmodern theatrical aesthetics through dramatist and director Antonín Pitínský's work, as well as the ambitious events of his peers at the former Brno House of Music.
The exhibition brings new insights into the origins of postmodern thinking in visual art on Moravia, a subject still awaiting deeper scholarly treatment, and also features entirely new works created specifically for this exhibition.
