Michal Vitanovský – Reliefs, Drawings, Texts
Galerie U lávky, Prague
A retrospective exhibition celebrating the 80th birthday of Michal Vitanovský (born 3 May 1946 in Klatovy) presents three areas of his artistic practice: reliefs, drawings, and texts. Vitanovský is a leading Czech medallist and sculptor who studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague in the studio of Jan Kavan (1965–1971). The gradual shift in his work from sculpture to reliefs is evident in the exhibition – his reliefs are made of metal, a common material linking artifacts of very different formats and functions. Drawing in the form of illustration connects the relief work with the third area – literary texts (scholarly texts, creative nonfiction, and fiction). The exhibition opened with a vernissage on 30 April 2026 at 18:00 and runs until 21 June 2026. Galerie U lávky is a non-commercial cultural facility of the Prague 6 – Troja municipal district, occupying a modest 50 m² space in the House of Contented Old Age at Povltavská 21/42, Prague-Troja, near Troja Castle.
