160 Years Since the Austro-Prussian War in the Sobotka Region at Almarium

Sobotecké Almarium, Sobotka

The exhibition "The Austro-Prussian War of 1866 in Sobotka" at Sobotka's Almarium commemorates the 160th anniversary of the Austro-Prussian War of 1866, which significantly affected the Sobotka region. The exhibition is not presented as a general commemoration of one of the 19th century's most important conflicts — its main goal is to show that major historical events did not unfold only on well-known battlefields, but that their consequences had a profound impact on smaller towns, villages, and ordinary people. Visitors will learn how the 1866 war affected Sobotka and its surroundings, what traces the movement of troops left behind, and how the war's events were recorded in the region's memory. The exhibition will bring closer the landscape, places, and stories connected to 1866 and the atmosphere of uncertainty, tension, and everyday concerns that the war brought to the Sobotka region. It is intended for both military and regional history enthusiasts and for anyone who wants to learn more about their region's past. The exhibition is open from May to September 2026, every Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 15:00.
