The exhibition "Expansion: Acquisitions 2013–2025" (working title Acquisitions: 350 of 2171) presents a selection from the acquisition activities of the Prague City Gallery over the past fourteen years – the period during which Magdalena Juříková has led the institution and serves as curator of the exhibition. The working title refers, on one hand, to the number of works that will fit into the Prague City Gallery Library spaces, and on the other, to the total number of works acquired for the collection during Magdalena Juříková's tenure. During this period (2013–2025), the Prague City Gallery acquired 2,366 artifacts, compared to just 375 works in the previous comparable period between 2000–2012. The exhibition aims not only to recapitulate the institution's acquisition strategy but also to reflect the transformations of the contemporary art scene. The presented works encompass a broad spectrum of media – from painting, drawing, and sculpture through photography and video to spatial installations and forms of conceptual art. Alongside established artists of several generations, the exhibition provides space for emerging artists. The exhibition also raises questions about the acquisition strategies of public institutions in a changing cultural context. In 2026, an accompanying publication will be released in collaboration with the international publisher Kulturalis. The exhibition takes place in the Prague City Gallery Library at Mariánské náměstí 98/1, Prague 1 – Old Town, and runs until August 30, 2026. Open Tue–Sun 10–18, Thu 10–20.
