Max Johnson Trio + The Absolute Pinnacle of Human Achievement
Thursday evening of the Jazz Goes to Town festival features two bands - an American trio rooted in jazz tradition and a Danish quartet that blends jazz-rock with humor and irony.
Max Johnson Trio is led by New York-based bassist, composer, and improviser Max Johnson. His work bridges jazz, free improvisation, and other musical genres, built on the energetic, physical sound of the double bass. The current trio builds on the album I'll See You Again (2024), where Johnson works with more straightforward jazz compositions inspired by figures like Charles Mingus, Mal Waldron, and Thelonious Monk - with plenty of room for spontaneity and open interplay.
The Absolute Pinnacle of Human Achievement is a project by Danish pianist and composer Jeppe Zeeberg, one of the most original voices on the contemporary Danish scene. The quartet, made up of players from Copenhagen's improvisation and progressive scene, is built on Zeeberg's genre-openness, unbridled energy, and subtle humor - and remains his most personal band to date.
