Max Johnson Trio is a New York jazz trio led by double bassist, composer and improviser Max Johnson. His music blends jazz with free improvisation, built around a physical, energetic approach to the bass. The 2024 album I'll See You Again draws on more straightforward jazz composition, with nods to Charles Mingus, Mal Waldron and Thelonious Monk, while leaving plenty of room for spontaneity.
