Max Johnson Trio is a New York jazz trio led by bassist, composer and improviser Max Johnson, who blends jazz with free improvisation and draws on a physically powerful double bass sound. Johnson has released nearly 20 albums as a leader and performed over 3,000 concerts internationally alongside figures such as Anthony Braxton, Mary Halvorson and John Zorn. His 2024 album I'll See You Again features five original compositions rooted in the post-bop tradition, inspired by Charles Mingus, Mal Waldron and Thelonious Monk. He also teaches music theory at Brooklyn College and is a doctoral candidate in music composition at the University of Pennsylvania.
