An elegant physician, Ingrid (Aňa Geislerová), works in the mid-1980s at a remote provincial hospital. Trapped in an exhausted marriage and stagnant career, she spends most of her time with her patients - delivering babies, terminating unwanted pregnancies, and performing sterilizations on Romani women without their full understanding of the consequences.

A friendship with a young hospital attendant, Agáta, prompts her to see things differently. Will she begin to question the rules she has hitherto followed without thought?
